More than 3,000 University of South Florida students took to the streets Saturday for a day of hard work.

They picked up litter, removed invasive plants, assembled packages, cleaned nonprofit facilities and set up for parties as part of the annual USF Stampede of Service.

The event, sponsored by the USF Center for Leadership & Civic Engagement, was started in 2006 by student Maxon Victor to honor Martin Luther King Jr. Day. It is designed to get students involved in the community.
