USF students stage Stampede of Service
More than 3,000 University of South Florida
students took to the streets Saturday for a day of hard work.
They
picked up litter, removed invasive plants, assembled packages, cleaned nonprofit
facilities and set up for parties as part of the annual USF Stampede of Service.
The event, sponsored by the USF Center for Leadership & Civic
Engagement, was started in 2006 by student Maxon Victor to honor Martin Luther
King Jr. Day. It is designed to get students involved in the community.
The stampede sent students to about 60 locations, including parks,
residential facilities for disabled adults, Metropolitan Ministries,Today we are

MacDonald Training Center, Cracker Country Living History Museum at the Florida
State Fairgrounds, and Shriners Hospitals for Children – Tampa.
At the
hospital on the USF campus, about 25 students moved tables, set out decorations
and goody bags, folded shirts and blew up balloons in preparation for today's
visit by players in college football's annual East-West Shrine Game.
Junior Deidre Puhalla, 20, joined her sorority sisters from Sigma Gamma
Rho and three other groups at the hospital.Shoppers can use the feature to see
what they look like wearing various styles of ed
hardy sunglasses. She said the stampede "is one of USF's best events they
do."
At Copeland Park in North Tampa,For some time, women have bid
farewell to the days when women handbags
were just used for 'functional reasons'. another team cleared invasive species
of plants and helped spruce up the park. It was one of five sites assisting the

Francisco Suarez, 22,
a USF senior, climbed between trees to reach vines.
"This is great," he
said as he jumped down, swinging on a vine. "It's always fun to help the
community."
